I find that there are times when candidates with very high qualifications (especially those from other countries) could not even understand very simple stuff. Perhaps it’s due to the difference in culture and languages? I’m not sure, but something like the above has definitely happened in some IT companies before.

Job hoppers can be bad for the company which hires them but each time they join a company, they will most probably work hard in order to impress. On the other hand, a loyal employee may take the company for granted and starts to slack a lot.

Don’t believe? Try to observe. Most newcomers always come in on time, if not earlier. But the old employees will always come in late.

Well, not much difference anyway. The only difference here is some extra cash in Mitch’s pocket. The customer does need to pay for him to go to there and ‘troubleshoot’.

By the way, this is based on a true story experienced by a friend many years ago. So this kind of case is entirely possible!

This comic is requested by a friend of mine. He contributed first part of the idea and I modified it slightly.

I think in reality, this kind of situation does happen to some people and at times like this, the term ‘job scope’ or ‘job definition’ or …well, ‘initiatives’ can be quite blurry and subjective. Just make sure you don’t try to sound threatening when your boss is in a bad mood.

Most companies do promote internal promotion or internal job switching, but not many companies actually DO those things. They prefer to hire talents from outside the company.
